Things You Should Know About The School Before You Make Any Decision

We as a parent often have a lot of second thoughts on our choices we make for the children. One of the major decision you as a parent will make, next to having the kid is deciding which school to enrol them in. Your thoughts will spread before you a multitude of options. But what is essential is how you will narrow them down to the best, the one school.

Making the right choice is essential. You are putting your child in a path of learning, a learning that imbibes values, ethics and promotes healthy atmosphere for nourishing the kid’s thinking. This school will probably lay foundation to his/her future prestigious college education, a life long learning and a strong sense of thought coupled with the ideas of the intellectual mind. Because, learning is not merely limited to academics, but also a path to effectively deal with the challenges of the real world.

The role of school

Some of the best International schools in Bangalore are committed to delivering their promise of enlightening the child’s future, by appropriately laying the foundation of learning. The CBSE schools in Bangalore drive their inspiration from the many successful alumni they have churned out. Their success is a testimony to the importance of school in the child’s future. As a parent wouldn’t you want to be hundred percent certain that you are making the right choice for your child? Well, here is how we can help you decide the parameters of a good school.

The essentials: What should your child’s school have?

School is probably where your child will spend most of his/her formative years. Giving them the right direction initially then becomes a prerequisite. Check out these when you decide on a school.

Go by achievement: Observe the amount of effort the school has put in terms of academic and non-academic areas for the child. The school should have generated a fair number of laurels in sports and extra curriculars as well as on the academic. Depriving your child of any co-curricular activities will be equal to punishing them. Look out of the school has a good play area and sports ground. Haven’t we heard ‘all work and no play make Jack a dull boy’?

Hygiene and cleanliness: This is an absolute essential. Your child will have to grow up in hygienic conditions that will foster a healthy learning experience. You do not want to see your child fall sick quite often. See if the toilets are clean and look out for some staff who can help the tiny tot in case he/she is feeling helpless.

Student-teacher ratio: The ideal student-teacher ratio would be one teacher for every 30 students. Up to 30 students is manageable and after that it is only chaos with no proper attention given to all. The teacher should foster a good rapport with the students and the students should feel comfortable talking to the teacher. In the absence of this, the child is only a passive listener in the class and will not really learn anything.

Timing: Ensure it is a good time for your child to start his/her school. Also ensure that they are strict about this, because it is a matter of discipline and punctuality. If it is a play school that you are looking for, five hours of it would be ideal.

Transport: How is your child going to commute daily? If you are looking for options, always choose the school transport. They are most often punctual and safe. Therefore, check for the transport facility, unless you are going to pick and drop your child daily.

Finally…
Ensure safety of your child in school. When you see your kid happy about going to school, be sure you have made the right choice. Schools should be their second home and if they do not feel the same, it is going to hamper their studies and personality as well. Schools have a bigger role to shape the future of the child. None of this will be possible without the ‘right’ choice. 1

Oakridge International School, Bengaluru Campus Parent Speaks

Hi, My name is Bala Gorthi and father of Tanvi Gorthi my daughter had graduated from the PYP to them, but we program One of the things that we had to make a decision remote from us to Bangalore was the choice of schools obviously the many education factories in India and you know choosing the right environment for our kids was a priority and Choosing Oakridge I mean come some of the things that make it easy is obviously the infrastructure like things like transport to school hygiene at School Food at school, and you know cleanliness. It's cool those are kind of the underlying things that very important so that You know it's it's it's you're comfortable with Dana and they are sending them to a safe place So that was obviously a shoo-in for okish It's very easy, and then a good place to send your kids but in the higher level of things you know the quality of education that were crystallites, or you know the kind of incentives and Incentives to learn that the kids have and how do they react to knowledge those are the things that make Oakridge unique? Obviously, Oakridge has a unique distinction of being an education institution and not you know a lot like a lot of other schools over buildings Because they have land or they have you know [have] infrastructure and hence this school brokerages is an educational institution for most Right and that makes a big difference in the attitude of people Connecting the classes in and out Or touch on a couple of themes Raleigh starting with you know what we think about education in token To the kind of effects that it has had on my kids, and I want to just highlight a few points that have observed No, I firmly believe that knowledge is Just the beginning and not a destination because I grew up in the school system where in a knowledge was about understanding learning and assimilating it and if You have the right environment applying it Oakridge turns the paradigm around and idea here is you Learn to use Knowledge we learnt What you? Observe every day into the process of learning and that makes a big difference because what it does to my kids is They're not looking to learn some blind formulas or an equation and trying to put that out on a paper in exam rather They're trying to understand how the world works and you know why it works and what doesn't work and how could the salt problem this? I think is going to make a big difference as they grow up because where we are a lot of people will have two three four carriers in their lifetime and Knowing how to solve a problem will [be] more important than you know just solving it blindly or having a process I think that this this paradigm helps in a growing and changing times Right and that that's where I think Oakridge helps quite a lot much in The other thing is you know as we move to India one of the key things for us was of course family There's a lot of family and they know closer to family that really helps and that was a priority and the other priority was I wanted to give my kids a sense of appreciation of how well they are and all the things that They have is then getting their privilege and you know it's a by it's a given and that's where I'm trying to give them a sense of you know appreciate what you have and Learn to be thankful to that now as a part of the extracurricular activities the school connects my daughter had gone to one of the camps where they met a lot of kids from Rural schools And other things that she came back with was the first thing she got down when she came back. She said, thank you Thank you for all the privilege I have I appreciate it, and I'm really grateful for that and that in itself was enough for me because I said hey I got [exactly] what no I sent you for the trip truth to understand appreciate what you have and then she went down talked about how smart the kids are there where how? how much more Innovative they were there in schools from this schools which were not Heavily funded but and she came back an appreciation of the world around and said you know I know what i have and I know how I'm using it there other smarter people are there And they're doing better with the little they have now that made a big difference to me. I was thinking well. She's all learned How well off g's in terms of watch is getting and two She has now learned to appreciate other people who are smarter than her and that I thought it was a unique learning for her So in effect as I said the school choice is obvious for us it's good with school and like I said I have two kids here and it's been a very beautiful right for the soFa and What kids are getting out of the education that they're getting is something. I really appreciate and About the nature of the process of things at the school. I think it's a learning organization what I mean that Feedback is constantly taken and the good part is that feedback is applied and you can see the effect of what you said a week ago Ten days ago to be assimilated and used on a daily basis and obeyed technology email lots Have any different things that are changing the nature of interaction are constantly used and implemented

5 WAYS IN WHICH GREAT TEACHERS INSPIRE ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY IN STUDENTS

The late President of India, Hon. APJ Abdul Kalam, was one of the foremost space scientists India has ever produced. During his stint as the Project Director for the launch of a space shuttle, he failed the first time as the rocket plunged into the sea!  He was sorely disappointed and worried about how he would face the press and the nation because of this failure.
His boss, Late Prof. Satish Dhawan, then Chairman of ISRO, came forward to face the press and accepted responsibility for the failure though it was actually the failure of the Project Director. Next year, the launch was done again, and this time it was successful! The project was again led by Dr. Kalam.  This time though, Dr. Dhawan, asked Dr. Kalam to face the press and announce the success.
This is a fine example of an individual taking accountability. Accountability is the act of accepting responsibility for consequences of actions taken previously.
Here are some simple tried and tested methods great teachers use to inspire accountability in children, that you could learn too. Click here for full article
