Why CBSE Board for our Kids?

A curriculum is the foundation of a child’s understanding towards the world. It is the framework that shows the child to carry forward his path to success. Well, in that case, the curriculum has to be strong and thoughtfully drafted to enable the child with the fortune of knowledge.

In India, education is considered as one of the crucial stages of national and societal development. We have our own education methods and practices along with the considerately made curriculum. Let’s have a look at the CBSE curriculum followed in most of the schools in India and its benefits to children.

CBSE or the Central Board of Secondary Education is one of the elite curriculums available to students in India. In a country like India with diverse culture and lifestyle, CBSE tries to bring in the knowledge to broaden the student’s mind to accept each of these diversities with due respect. This tremendous effort is usually not found in any curriculum. Being said that, the proficient curriculum makers of CBSE keep it in mind to change with time when it is required.

In India, more than 9000 schools are affiliated to the CBSE board and thus its curriculum is made at par with international standards.

CBSE usually appears more child-friendly than any other syllabus available in the country. The entire study program structure is made in such a way to reduce a humongous amount of pressure from the students. Thus, it is more interactive and action oriented to keep it interested. In other ways, this makes learning a lot happier than it appears.

Since the curriculum is not completely focused on the annual exams and results, it encourages the appropriate learning process of each child. When the learning process does not take place under pressure, children will be able to learn practically so that they can avoid reading it all before the day of the exam.

The CBSE syllabus focuses on the mental and physical growth of students while providing him/her with the power of knowledge. Most importantly, the curriculum gives the opportunity to the child to select their choice of subject to study instead of forcing them to follow the age-old subjects and methods. This flexibility is simply amazing and it lets students learn the act of choosing what is right for them. Many of the South Indian schools, especially IB schools in Bangalore are successfully following the CBSE syllabus for the benefit of their students.

The Necessity of Learning Sufficient Vocabulary

A language becomes stronger and meaningful with its diverse and unique vocabulary. Most of the people who speak languages other than their mother tongue, for instance, English, often find it difficult to come up the appropriate vocabulary even though they know the language well. In most of the cases, this is related to the education system that they were part of. While learning a language, it is compulsory that one must get familiar with the diverse colloquial and written vocabulary to connect with it completely.

It is said that vocabulary is something which a child should learn from his/her young age so that when they grow up they have a strong grip on this area. This would make them more confident while speaking with others. So, schools will have to play the major role here to teach our future generation the diversities of vocabulary in various interesting forms. When a person is well equipped with vocabulary, they become more attracted to reading and writing as it would be easy for them to understand the complexities of poetic meanings.

Let’s find out some of the easy ways to make children get familiar with more vocabulary inside classrooms.

Try to make it exciting

Making vocabulary classroom sessions interesting is definitely not a cake walk for any. The teacher will have to come up with out of the box ideas to train the young ones in this regard. However, there are so many practices available these days in the form of interesting classroom games. Word puzzles, guess the word game, word ladder, spelling games and all are a few examples of such interactive vocabulary games.

Try to make it significant

Well, vocabulary not always means the toughest words or those that no one can pronounce. The teacher will have to make sure that all the practice sessions include words that the children would use in various situations. Since we are dealing with the young minds, we have to keep it at a priority that they should be able to connect with it to understand it better.

Try to make the goals attainable

The teacher should keep it in mind that the young shouldn’t be overloaded with words at one go. Provide them easily achievable goals so that they can learn it properly and remember it. When we burden our children with unachievable targets, they tend to get deviated from the topic. Also, decrease the level of difficulty, especially during the initial stages to retain their interest.

South Indian schools are putting a lot of effort these days to enhance the vocabulary skills of their children. Particularly, the CBSE schools in Vizag have been conducting week long inter-school events to encourage the vocabulary skills of their students.

How to Instil Healthy Eating Habits in Children?

Mental and physical health is directly connected to the food we eat. Be it a child or an adult, diet plans and healthy eating habits are necessary to lead a fruitful life. Especially in the in the case of school going children, most of them lack a balanced food system due to various factors. In those cases, it is the responsibility of the parents and the school to ensure that our children are having a well-balanced food habit for the appropriate development of their mind and body.  Here are a few suggestions for the family and the school to instil good eating habits in a child.

Provide healthy alternatives to select

If children get healthy and tasty food choices at home, the possibility of them longing for unhealthy food would be drastically lower. Parents will have to make sure that their children are not deprived of vital minerals and nutrients. So help them get habituated to more of fresh fruits and vegetables along with protein rich food items to develop a strong body and soul.

Take them out for shopping to understand their preferences

While being with friends at school or seeing it somewhere else, children develop various tastes and interests towards food. To understand these preferences and consider their requirements with healthy alternatives, parents shall take the children out for shopping. Not only that, you could educate them about various food products that should be consumed and avoided for long term benefits.

Change the snacking habits

The enormous amount of junk food became a part of every child’s routine which can cause far reaching health issues. The snacking habit while watching TV, reading or even relaxing, will gradually lead to this situation. Parents and teachers shall make efforts to change this harmful habit and encourage them to consume food items that can contribute to the betterment of their health. Don’t just stop them from doing it, instead educate them about the consequences.

Make them drink more water

An appropriate amount of water is highly necessary for anyone to lead an energetic and prolific life. Children shall be made to drink a good amount of water as they indulge in more physical exertions than the adults. However, apart from water and fresh fruit juices, the artificially sweetened drinks shall be strictly avoided for the obvious reasons.

Schools will also have to play a major role in developing healthy food habits in children by educating them about it and encouraging them to eat healthy food products. They could also ensure this by providing natural and hygiene food items inside the school premises. Many Indian international schools especially, Bangalore international schools are making great efforts to fulfill this.
